Today, we read two different illustrated versions of "The Twelve Days of Christmas" What similarities and differences did you notice? How would you describe the different illustrators' styles? Which one did you prefer, Jane Ray's, on the left, or Laurel Long, on the right? Why?
Have you ever really thought about the story in the "12 Days of Christmas" song? Today, we analyzed the lyrics and considered what we may infer from them. If we take the lyrics literally, the
person gives his/her true love a partridge in a pear tree not just on the first day, but on every day. That makes twelve partridges (in twelve pear trees)! If we add up all the gifts given over the entire twelve days, the person gives 364 items, 184 of which are birds. Also, 40 milk maids, 36 dancing ladies, 30 leaping lords, 22 pipers piping, and 12 drummers have been hired. One more thing; the person's true love does manage to get 40 golden rings too. So what can we infer from all of this? Today is Fast Food Day, Button Day, International Day for Tolerance, Have a Party with Your Bear Day. At which fast food restaurant do you like to eat most? What do you typically order there? For each item ordered, determine the cost and number of calories.
